Household waste collection
Penalties modified
Members of Verdun Borough Council have decided to reduce penalty amounts to be imposed on residents who violate certain regulations with respect to household waste collection.
The penalty for putting residual containers before the scheduled hour has been reduced by $200.00 (plus fees) to $40.00 (plus fees). This amount applies to residents who put their containers out between 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm; the regulation stipulates that containers should be placed at the assigned area between 10 pm the night before collection and 8:00 am on collection day. The penalty will however be $100.00 (plus fees) for those who put their containers between 8:00 am and 8 pm. The penalty will be $200.00 for those who put their containers out more than 24 hours before the actual collection; that is before 8:00 am the day before.

Residents have up to 7:00 pm to gather their empty bins on the day of collection. If they don’t pick up their containers by 7:00 pm, they could be subject to a fine of $40.00, plus fees.

Residents who put their containers in prohibited areas (alleys, public property, etc) will be fined $200.00 (including fees). For violations to this regulation not included in this list, the fine will be $100.00 (plus fees).

During the Council meeting, Mayor Claude Trudel reminded residents that the Borough had practiced a great deal of tolerance in enforcing the regulations and that most violators have received notices. The enforcement of more flexible regulations will be assessed at the end of courtesy measures.

When a question was raised, Mayor Trudel and Councillor Ginette Marotte took the opportunity to announce that it is now possible, for all areas of the Borough, to obtain a bin for free. These bins will be delivered at no expense to the homes of residents who request them by calling 311 or 514 765-VERT.
