Verdun wins trophy for best municipal presentation at St-Patrick's parade
(PV) Verdun Borough is pleased to announce that it was awarded the trophy for best municipal presentation by the United Irish Societies of Montreal during the St. Patrick’s parade held in Montreal last March 22.
As is the custom each year, Verdun Borough was well represented. Mayor Claude Trudel, municipal councillors Ginette Marotte and Alain Tassé, as well as Borough councillors André Savard and Marc Touchette participated in this event. They distributed candy to numerous parade observers who were lined up all along St. Catherine Street. Former mayor Raymond Savard and Verdun residents of Irish descent also participated in the festivities.
Sports theme featured
For this occasion, Verdun selected sports as the theme for its float. Various sporting associations in Verdun were invited to take part in the parade by assigning some players (wearing their respective costumes) to be on the platform. Representatives from soccer, football, figure skating, junior hockey and baseball associations participated. The junior hockey association even assigned a referee with its official mascot Palouf. The Junior de Montréal group also joined the Borough’s float.
