Real festival of activities for spring break
(PV)For spring break - 1st to 7th of March - numerous activities are in store for Verdun Borough youth
Film
Five to twelve-year olds will be treated to the film Coucou M. Edgar on March 2 at 2:00 pm at the Elgar Community Centre (260 Elgar Street). On the same day at 10:00 am, young people can watch L’hiver de Léon at the Verdun Cultural Centre (5955 Bannantyne Street). These two screenings are being presented in collaboration with the NFB (National Film Board of Canada).
Kids will also have the chance to enjoy the full length feature film Marley et moi, on March 4 at 10:00 am and at 2:00 pm at the Verdun Cultural Centre. These three films are free but passes will be required.
Theatre
Une forêt dans la tête, produced by Le Théâtre de l’Avant-pays, will be shown on March 3 at 2:00 pm at Studio B (5160 LaSalle Boulevard). The touring Montreal Arts Council is participating in this theatrical production.
The Jeunesses musicales du Canada is inviting children to discover Rythmo-Synchro, to be staged on the 6th of March at 2:00 pm at the Verdun Cultural Centre.
And to highlight music week, the youth are encouraged to attend the La boîte à rythmes conference on March 5 at 10:00 am at the Elgar Community Centre Elgar and at 2:00 pm at the Verdun Cultural Centre.
The entrance fee for these two presentations is $25.00.
At the Library
To make an exception for spring break, the libraries will open their doors to the public beginning at 10:00 in the morning from Monday, March 2 to Friday, March 6. That means more library hours to browse through the collections and to take advantage of library services. Make it a date to drop by the libraries at the Elgar Centre and at the Cultural Centre.
Swimming
Open swimming will be available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Tuesday from 9:00 am to noon, Saturday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, as well as Sunday, the 1st and 8th of March from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The young and not so young are welcome to swim in the pool of Mgr Richard School (3000 Gaétan Laberge Boulevard). Entrance fees are $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children. Admission is free for Accès Verdun cardholders. Children who are six years old and younger and those who don’t know how to swim should be accompanied by an adult.
At the gym
Athletic activities for the young will take place on Tuesday, March 3 at the Île-des-Soeurs school gym (530 Gaspe Street) from 10:00 am to noon for six to twelve-year olds, and from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm for 13 to 17-year olds.
During these same hours and for the same age groups, these activities are also going to be offered on Thursday, March 5 at the gym of the École Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs School (320 De L’Église Street). Admission is free for Accès Verdun cardholders.
In the arena
Open skating will be part of the Saturday-Sunday schedule, 1st and 7th of March, from 1:30 pm to 3:15 pm, and also on Monday, March 2 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Fees are $2.00 (adults) and $1.00 (children). Admission is free for Accès Verdun cardholders. To take advantage of these skating periods, the public should go to the Denis-Savard arena (4110 LaSalle Boulevard). Moreover, if temperatures will cooperate, the outside skating rinks of Willibrord, Elgar and Reine-Élisabeth will be open starting at 10:00 am.
