Questions were raised regarding the illegal tree-cutting which Le Magazine reported about last autumn.
Illegal tree-cutting: issue taking its course
The matter of illegal tree-cutting near Sommets III and IV was discussed during the November 3 Borough Council meeting. APRIDS president Juliette Barcelo who questioned Mayor Trudel about it was involved in this issue.
In response to Mrs. Barcelo’s questions, Mayor Trudel said that several parties were involved. The Borough issued notices of violation to 17 condo owners of Sommets III. As for the Minister of the Environment, he undertook discussions with the condo associations of Sommets III and IV. The latter must submit to the Minister a rehabilitation plan for the section affected by the illegal tree-cutting. According to information obtained by Le Magazine, an exchange of documents would be taking place between these two parties. The Minister of the Environment has very strict rules relating to work of this nature and that plans have to be approved before they are executed.
In the meantime, no details have been provided regarding the response from the people who were sent violation notices. The 17 condo owners received notices to the effect that they are obliged to pay individual penalties of $1,250.00 making a total of $21,250.00. The contractor also received a penalty notice fixed at $1,250.00 and another for an amount of $144.00 for trespassing on private property without authorisation.
If the alleged violators contest the notice, they should exercise their rights in court. It will therefore take several months before a final decision can be made.
