Stuck in the elevator of her building

A L'Île-des-Sœurs resident lived a traumatic experience last Saturday, October when she got stuck in an elevator that lost power. She was inside for almost an hour. Firefighters were called so they could help release her from her annoying situation.

This is the second time that this lady experienced a similar incident in the Corot Street building where she lives. The first time it happened, she was able to contact a representative of the building owners and people came to her rescue 45 minutes later.

This time, the situation was more worrisome for her because no one seemed to have heard the alarm that she triggered. Some 10 minutes later, she became impatient and called the Fire Department by calling 911 on her cell phone. Firefighters came promptly and got her out of the elevator. She estimates that her ordeal lasted about an hour, all in all.

The woman was keen to share this incident because she doesn’t want other people who could be more vulnerable than her to face a similar situation. She has her cell phone and does not seem to suffer from any particular health disorder. In spite of her discomfort and the inconveniences she had to put up with, she thinks the consequences could have been more dramatic for someone who is not able to make an outside call or who suffers from claustrophobia as an example. She said that she tried to contact a representative of the building on Monday, October 20, but no one has returned her call.
