Letter to the Editor
I would like to express my appreciation publicly for the efforts of Nina Gould to keep our island green. I moved here in 1969 and still enjoy the beauty, though diminishing, of the island. It has been a privilege to walk in the woods and even picnic there in years past. When her children were young, I remember often seeing Nina Gould with a baby strapped to her back, crosscountry skiing through the woods. She has done a tremendous amount for those of us who want to retain the essence of this special place. She has spent countless hours standing guard over the flora and fauna of the island. She has worked to find reasonable compromises with city hall and developers. Even those who may have different goals for the island must surely agree that Nina Gould’s dedication to our environment is admirable.
At the end of the day, whatever is left of the original wildlife here will be greatly due to the tireless efforts of Nina Gould. I sincerely hope that a park, walking path or some pleasant area of Nun’s Island will bear the Gould name. Thank you Nina Gould for representing those of us who see that real progress is preserving that which is of great value and cannot be replaced.
Sincerely
Diane Brooks
