Opposition to a garage on chemin du Golf
Several residents expressed their opposition to the adoption of zoning regulation 1700-64 which would have allowed the establishment of a repair and maintenance garage in the buildings located on chemin du Golf L'Île-des-Sœurs, specifically at civic numbers 700 and 750 of this street.
The regulation was introduced to residents during a consultation session which took place on Tuesday, November 4 at 18h30 in Chamber Hall of Verdun Borough. This session preceded the Council meeting during which Council had to approve the second reading of the regulation. As residents were opposed to this regulation, officials decided to withdraw the project before the meeting started.
The adoption of this regulation came as a result of measures taken by numerous residents who deplored the closing of the island’s only repair shop in the Esso gas station on Île-des-Sœurs Boulevard. A location was found for the establishment of such a business but it was first necessary to modify the zoning in the area being targeted. The new zone 103-120 would have added the “prestige industry” category making it possible to establish a repair and maintenance shop for cars and trucks and also for an automated or non-automated car wash for vehicles.
As of press time, it is still not known if the Council was going to decide to re-introduce the regulation during a Council meeting. It happens often that Council members abandon a draft regulation when residents express their disagreement during the consultation session.
