HIT THE POST WITH CJAD'S RICK MOFFAT, VOICE OF THE ALS & THE CANADIENS
If you really care about Don Matthews' stress and anxiety levels do you really want to let him anywhere near the Argos, the way they're playing?
With rumours the Habs may have a player signing to announce this week, I got word from Sundin's agent reconfirming that Mats is over in Barcelona, Spain at a charity poker tournament. "Who has the better poker face---your or Mats?" I wondered. "Based on the last few months---Sundin," admits the veteran player agent.
I suggested to Uzooma Okeke that The Don won't have time to impact the Argos' systems by Friday night against the Bombers..."Why not? He could hit them with a whole new playbook on game-day," roared the future Hall of Fame lineman now scouting Canadian University games this month for the Als.
Alain Kashama tells me he and Marc Trestman were always at odds with each other because of CFL Players Association rules about length of practise and meetings. Those rules are outdated and the PA should give up the quota system in return for jacking up the minimum salary which is shockingly low in the CFL.
Then again, given the lucrative state of the NFL, there's no reason for the rookie salary to be lower than NHL rookie pay scales.
The Als' latest receiver recruit David Ball, former Jet, is from Barre, Vermont and traces back his heritage on his father's side to French-Canadians.
Favre, Lance, The Don: would you all please tell Mats retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be?
LINE OF THE WEEK ON CJAD: Rob Martier on the Als shutting down Arland Bruce the 3rd last Sunday..."He went from Spiderman to the Invisible Man."
Congrats, Jeremaine Copeland on getting married before the Battle of Alberta. Wonder if the former Alouette still wears a shower cap on Hat Day, the eve of Stampeder games?
LEAP OF FAITH: Larry Taylor is not one for flashy endzone celebrations, but his blockers were so fired up after his first CFL TD that they forced him up and over the fence to get close to the fans in the West Endzone. Not a Lambeau Leap, but a Molson Mosh. Pine&Parc Push?
With Kashama traded and Kai Ellis waived (now in Winnipeg) watch for Rodney Hardaway to jump into the rotation with John Bowman and veteran Anwar Stewart. The Als wanted Hardaway to go on the practise roster when they broke Training Camp Fort St. Jean, but the former Rams property balked.
Love The Don trying to sell himself as Argos saviour for the good of the CFL. Then why do my sources say The Don also offered the Tiger-Cats the opportunity for a second-coaching coming?
