No special fees for seniors?
Tennis in public parks
After a resident asked about tennis fees during the May 6 council meeting, Mayor Claude Trudel changed his position regarding the tennis fee structure for Borough seniors. He was thinking that he could impose a special fee for seniors but he admits that he’s no longer sure about it.
In the days following the meeting, Mr. Trudel explained to the Magazinethat he had envisaged a special fee for seniors that was in effect during the 1993-1994 season. However, after analysing the impact on the Borough’s financial situation, he took the position that it would no longer be possible to adopt this particular measure for the current year. He has not totally dismissed this option, although he believes that he should resign himself and abandon the idea.

During the same meeting, Mr. Trudel was engaged in a dialogue with residents of L'Île-des-Sœurs – an exchange of views that was characterised by some strong sentiments. The residents raised the tennis fee structure for review. He admitted that the fees imposed by Verdun Borough are one of the highest in the City of Montreal. “The Council does not have the intention of reviewing this decision which was influenced by the financial situation of the Borough” Mr. Trudel said. He did not however dismiss the possibility altogether of reviewing various tennis fees when the next budget is adopted.
And the Tennis Club?
At the request of L'Île-des-Sœurs resident Gilles Pétel who confirmed that he represented several tennis players, Mr. Trudel made a promise to make public the terms of the agreement entered into between the Borough and the Île-des-Sœurs Tennis Club. He also confirmed that he will first find out about the legal implication of disclosing terms of this agreement. After making that statement, Mr. Trudel pointed out to the Magazinethat in his opinion, it constitutes a public document and he will therefore allow access to it by those who are interested.
