In keeping with its yearly tradition, the Verdun Borough will be well represented at the St. Patrick's Day parade, which will be held at noon on Sunday, March 14 in downtown Montréal. Claude Trudel, Borough Mayor and member of the Executive Committee responsible for public safety and security, as well as his team of Councillors, will be in the front rows along the route on rue Sainte-Catherine to wave to the crowd and distribute sweet treats in Ireland's colours to the spectators on hand.
This year, the Borough's procession will consist of our famous Verdun trolley, decorated in colours for the occasion, as well as a float featuring youngsters playing their favourite sport within the various local recreational associations.
Verdun has always been recognized for its warm welcome. And that's why several generations ago, many Irish people chose to come and settle in our Borough. Still today, the Verdun Borough can boast of having one of the largest Irish communities in Greater Montréal among its population. And we're very proud of this.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to all the Gallaghers, Gregorys, Quinns, O’Reillys and other Irish people in the Borough as well as to all those who will discover Irish roots for the occasion… Congratulations to the Grand Verdunite Walter Gregory, who had the distinguished honour to be named Irishman of the Year—a highly deserved title.
Verdunites—both kids and grown-ups—are invited to line up along the parade route—and we're hoping for a large turnout among you all—to wave to the paraders and applaud them, and, above all, to admire the many floats that will be passing by.
